Key facts:

  • Justin Bieber is estimated to have bought an NFT from Bored Ape for 500 ETH (USD 1.2 million).
  • In his social media profile picture he shows two of the more than 1,300 NFT he would have bought.

Super famous singer Justin Bieber, who has almost 220 million followers on Instagram, is causing a stir in the NFT (non-fungible token) market. Since a profile called «JustinBieberNFTS» was registered on the OpenSea marketplace last December, the account has not stopped trading in the millions of USD (US dollars).

Although the artist has not confirmed if the account is his, different media have assumed that it is. Not only because it carries his name, but also because there is another reason that shows that Justin Bieber is indeed getting into the NFT market. That is because he has put images of the NFTs acquired by this account, in the profile pictures of his social networks.

On both Twitter and Instagram, Justin Bieber owns the image of two NFTs. These belong to a collection of bears called «inBetweeners» that was created by graphic artist GianPiero. And both were acquired by the account «JustinBieberNFTS» registered on OpenSea since last December.

Another proof of the music celebrity’s interest in NFTs is that she uploaded a story to her Instagram on January 20 sharing that she loved another NFT from Gian Piero’s bear drawing collection, Cryptonomist reported. The media outlet also estimated that inBetweeners has already surpassed a volume of USD 24 million.

As noted by CryptoNews, it has recently become a trend to put the image of an NFT in the profile picture of social networks among enthusiasts who follow the industry. Especially, on Twitter, where it is now also possible to upload a verified NFT if the user has purchased it.

Alleged Justin Bieber bought an NFT from Bored Ape for more than USD 1 million

OpenSea’s JustinBieberNFTS account, created only a month ago, already records the acquisition of 1,320 NFTs and has not created any. In other words, it is dedicated only to the purchase and resale of these assets as an investment, not to the composition of these collectibles.

One of those he acquired this week was piece #3001 from the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club monkey collection for a price in the millions. The purchase was made for 500 ETH, which is equivalent to USD 1.2 million, as revealed by the ether conversion in the CryptoNews calculator.
