Stamps are an age-old tradition of communication, harkening back to a time when physical letters were the fastest means of communication. Now, they are being given a modern upgrade as the Japan Post has released its first collection of NFT stamp artworks.

These NFTs came in packs of 100 units each and the images were of common themes like animals and flowers. These NFTs were listed on the Rakuten NFT marketplace and sold out shortly after their launch.

This new collection comes roughly a year after the Japan Post and Rakuten signed a deal together and given the response so far, could be the first of many to come.

A pack of these NFTs were sold for around $20 each and they have also brought in big bucks on the resale market. While this venture has clearly been a success, the Japan Post is not the first federal body around the world to release such an NFT project.

The Swiss Post, for example, also released a digital collectables line back in September 2021 and again in August 2022. The central Bank of Lithuania has also followed suit, launching a collectables line back in 2022.
