Vodafone auctions the first SMS in history as NFT for 107,000 euros
The auction lot also included the original communications protocol code, and the money will go to the United Nations Refugee Agency.

The first ever SMS has already been sold as an NFT for the price of 107,000 euros, which will be donated to UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The buyer, whose identity has not been disclosed, has become the exclusive owner of a digital replica of the communication protocol that was created by Vodafone to demonstrate the sending and receiving of the first SMS. In addition, the auction lot also included an animated version of the full replica of the original communications protocol code.
Colman Deegan, CEO of Vodafone Spain, explained in a press release that «we partnered with programmers and cryptography experts as well as auction professionals to turn this idea into reality and the hammer has sounded this afternoon. The world’s first SMS is already an NFT for the benefit of those most in need.»
Said non-fungible token will be paid in Ethereum, the second most popular cryptocurrency on the market. On the other hand, all the money paid for the NFT will go to the United Nations Refugee Agency, in other words, the donation will make it possible to protect lives and support the neediest people around the world.
