Michel Cadot noted the possibility of issuing secure and personalized tickets

A week ago, the envoy for the Paris 2024 Olympics and next year’s Rugby World Cup, Michel Cadot, recommended the widespread deployment of blockchain ticketing and other enhanced security protocols for the upcoming games in France.

According to Ticketing Business News, Cadot presented a 30-page report to the Prime Minister’s Office after widespread condemnation by French authorities following problems at the Liverpool-Real Madrid match at the Stade De France.

Ticket forgery became one of the causes of the chaotic scene on May 28, causing disorder and delay. The scene escalated and police forces used tear gas in order to restore the order.

Cadot said that apart from the ticket fraud, the transportation, signage and security of the site did not comply with the proper requirements. However, among the recommendations at the end of the report, the envoy proposed a solution to prevent ticket fraud in future games.

Among the five recommendations of his report, he noted the possibility of issuing secure and personalized tickets to be used for Paris 2024, and proposed that it should be introduced for all major international sporting events held in France.

This would mean that tickets could only be transmitted by the organizer a few days in advance via SMS messages and, in addition, would include a rotating QR code using blockchain technology.

There are currently several Ticketing companies proposing the use of NFTs for events, however, this is the first time that their possible use for such large events is being discussed internationally. These would be active only within a virtual perimeter and promise much greater security that is impossible to replicate.
