The Vatican creates strategic alliances with Sensorium and Human 2.0 Foundation to bring one of the largest museums to virtual reality.

On Monday, May 2, 2022, Sensorium, a leading developer in the metaverse, announced on its website blog that it was joining Humanity 2.0 to create a virtual gallery where it will exhibit its works of art, manuscripts, historical items, among others, which takes the initiative in joining the digitalization of the art world.

This decision comes to solve socio-economic and cultural problems that were presented to people who wanted to visit the historic country and gives the opportunity to millions who may not be able to visit it personally to visit it virtually. The Vatican contains a vast amount of historical and public interest items.

«We look forward to working with Sensorium to explore ways to democratize art, making it more widely available to people around the world regardless of their socio-economic and geographical limitations. The partnership with Sensorium brings this goal a step further and equips us with the latest tech solutions.»

– Father Philip Larrey, Chairman of Humanity 2.0

The Vatican City hosts the most visited museums in the world created in the 16th century and they are visited by 6 million people a year. Its collections contain over 800 art works by more than 250 international artists including Michelangelo, Raphael, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Paul Gauguin, Wassily Kandinsky, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso.

The platform that will host the virtual gallery is called Sensorium Galaxy and is scheduled to launch later this year. It will be available in various forms including VR headset, augmented reality for PC and mobile with an app, among other ways to make it accessible to everyone who wants to experience this new way of visiting museums.
