On April 17, 2022, the band registered two of its most representative makeup designs.

More and more elements are being added to the metaverse due to the well-known brands and celebrities that contribute their legacy to the virtual world. On this occasion, the rock band Kiss filed an application to register the makeup design used by bassist Gene Simmons and singer Paul Stanley in their videos and presentations.

The application was made on April 17, 2022 and on April 21, 2022 Mike Kondoudis, licensing attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), made the announcement via Twitter including a screenshot with the complete application where more details of the elements that the band wants to include in this new stage can be seen.

The emblematic designs bear the same name of the personalities that the artists adopted for their characters within the band. Simmons assumed the character denominated «Demon», Stanley that of «Starchild», drummer Peter Criss that of «Catman» and guitarist Ace Frehley that of «Space Ace» or «Spaceman». Being the «Demon» and «Starchild» designs the ones registered to enter the metaverse as NFTs, for now.

It is known that more news from Kiss in the metaverse can be expected soon since, as it says in the trademark application, in addition to makeup, they also included patenting other elements such as cryptocurrencies, clothing, art, footwear, among others.

The American band expressed their interest in the metaverse since last year, but it is until recently that the registration for the patents of certain elements was made. Even Gene Simmons announced in February of this year that he was selling his house in the Ascaya community of Henderson for 13.5 million dollars and that he accepted payments in cryptocurrencies, showing himself in favor of this type of transactions.

About KISS

Kiss (often styled as KISS) is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Well known for its members’ face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 1970s with their elaborate live performances–which featured fire breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through multiple lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons the only remaining original members. Counting the 1978 solo albums, Kiss has been awarded 30 gold albums to date, the most of any American band.

The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 25 million have been certified by the RIAA and their worldwide sales exceed 100 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time. The original and arguably best-known lineup consisted of Stanley (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocals and bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals).
