HTC Launches First Smartphone Built Around its Viverse Metaverse

Taiwanese consumer electronics company HTC has launched the first smartphone to go alongside its ‘Viverse’ metaverse platform. Dubbed the HTC Desire 22 Pro, the new device comes with apps to navigate Viverse, as well as functions which allow users to manage their crypto and NFTs.

The pre-loaded Viverse app comes with features which allow users to manage their metaverse experience from the palm of their hands. Within the features is crypto and NFT management, as the app comes with its own digital marketplace to allow users to purchase NFTs to create their own virtual space.

As with other HTC models such as the Exodus 1 and Exodus 1S which date back to 2018, the Desire 22 Pro will also come with a built-in crypto wallet for users to store and manage Ethereum and Polygon-based crypto assets.

On the hardware side of things, the device is designed to work alongside HTC’s lightweight Vive Flow VR headset, where through using HDCP 2.2 connectivity, users can wirelessly mirror content such as virtual meetings or immersive cinema experiences to the headset. 

The device comes as part of the company’s efforts to become the go-to manufacturer for Web3 smartphones which incorporate crypto, NFTs, the metaverse, and virtual reality. That being said, with rival Samsung smartphones now having multiple years of crypto-storing experience behind them, as well as Apple reportedly prepping to enter the augmented and virtual reality game next year, HTC’s window of opportunity to capture market shares is narrowing by the day. The launch and performance of the Desire 22 Pro is pivotal in determining the future Web3 success of the company.
