One of the cards from a rare and scarce Pokemon collection was acquired by a well-known Youtuber.
Logan Paul, an American youtuber and influencer, uploaded a video last week to his Youtube channel in which Paul commented that he made the purchase of the rarest Pokémon card in the world, for the sum of U$S5,275,000, with intentions of turning it into an NFT. The card was originally named «Pikachu Illustrator» and was rated by an authentication company as «a ten» for its current condition.
The card, named Pikachu Illustrator, is a commemorative card that was distributed in Japan in 1998 as part of a contest. Its rarity is due to the fact that only 39 copies were printed and Logan Paul bought one of them in perfect condition, to sell it in one of his most recent projects Liquid Marketplace where cryptocurrencies and NFTs are exchanged.
With this transaction, the renowned influencer obtained the Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon card sold in a private auction. In addition, Paul will claim 49% ownership of the card and the remaining percentage will be for those who wish to share ownership of the NFT. Paul has records that he has been trying to buy the card since 2021 and has only recently been able to obtain it.
It is worth mentioning that the Pokemon collecting community has not been very positive about Paul’s action, communicating harsh criticism that all the euphoria surrounding the purchase and sale of the card, coupled with Logan’s past scandals, could lead to the card and other Pokemon collections losing the value they have carried for so many years.
The influencer presented the card hanging from his neck with a gold chain and framed in a gold frame at Wrestlemania, where he is also a boxer, where he was also presented with the Guinness World Record he won for the transaction. Logan Paul has millions of followers on social networks and his marketplace is already known in the world of digital assets.
